International Symposium on Ubiquitous Virtual Reality (ISUVR) is an international symposium for state of the art in research on ubiquitous virtual reality.  Emerging ubiquitous computing paradigm accelerates the convergence of different technologies to enrich the quality of services and user experience.  With this trends, for the past years, International Symposium on Ubiquitous Virtual Reality (ISUVR) has been a successful event where participants can exchange interdisciplinary research ideas about "Ubiquitous VR" with other researchers from different backgrounds. Thus, it would be timely to initiate a forum to discuss and share ideas on "Presence in Ubiquitous VR" which combines various AR/MR/VR related technologies to feel physical and social existence for Ubiquitous VR systems/applications. The aim of this symposium is to facilitate intellectual exchange on working-in-progress research activities with the world's most active researchers invited to ISUVR 2013.

This year, we are pleased to invite you to participate in 8th International Symposium on Ubiquitous Virtual Reality (ISUVR 2013) with the theme "Presence in Ubiquitous VR", held July 10-13, 2013 at KAIST, Daejeon, South Korea.

The purpose of "Presence in Ubiquitous VR" in this symposium is combining various technologies to feel physical and social existence for Ubiquitous VR systems/applications.
We invite original and innovative idea papers on related areas of Web 2.0, social computing, context-awareness, ubiquitous-, mobile-, and wearable computing as well as computer graphics, computer vision, virtual reality and augmented reality.  The following topics are welcomed, but are not limited to:

  •  Theoretical Backgrounds / Conceptual Framework
      for Ubiquitous VR
  •  Fundamental Technologies for Ubiquitous VR
        - Computer Graphics
        - Computer Vision
        - Virtual Reality & Augmented Reality
        - Web 2.0 and Social Computing
        - Authoring and Mashup
        - Context-Awareness
        - Pervasive & Ubiquitous Computing
  •  Systems and Applications for Ubiquitous VR
  •  Human-Computer Interaction and Design Concept
      for Ubiquitous VR

  •    Published by Conference Publishing
  Services.
  •  Submitted to IEEE Xplore(TM) and CSDL
      Digital Libraries.
  •  IEEE reserves the right not to publish any
proceedings that do not meet required standards
and no guarantee may be made on the website
      of any conference.

ISUVR is launching the organization's first online video competition for any undergraduate or graduate students in the world.  The theme is open to any topic as long as it is in the field of augmented reality and virtual reality or closed to them.  We are particularly interesting in this year about "How to enhance the presence using augmented reality or virtual reality?” In other words, "How to enhance the feeling of being somewhere using augmented reality or virtual reality?”  A challenge in the video competition is to create the most effective two-minute video clips addressing the utilization of augmented reality and virtual reality.  For more guidelines, please click here.
